Video Production: What is the job outlook for video production and video editors?

I say filming and editing has a huge potential.

It's easy to be in an industry and think negatively about it's future based on your experiences with clients and sales of late compared to long ago.

There will always be competition.  The rise of new technology has reduced the cost of devices and the quality you can achieve.  The iphone shoots great 1080p.  Are these bad things?  Really?

Having great equipment that eliminates common lighting or post production problems is actually a good thing.  Sure it lets more people into the business faster, but can they really measure up to your skill and ability to see projects through to a done?

People shouldn't be paying you because of the equipment you have.  They should be paying you because you are good at getting their message across.

That's what's important.  The message.

The professional knows this.

Every person who ever wanted to make a film, had a story to tell.
They are passionate about telling the story.
So passionate that you have a job helping them tell it.

You get to make the audience laugh and cry.  Focus on it.

You convey the emotions that need to be delivered from the footage you piece together with that music.

So again, I say filming and editing has a huge potential.

Consider the obvious statistics:

  • Video is getting easier to shoot and edit.
  • The cost of shooting and editing is going way down.
  • Television screens and the and computer screens are merging and content is becoming more and more available. between the two.
  • In the last 10 years the devices to watch video on have skyrocketed with smartphone and tablet production.
  • More and more companies are turning to Video as a motivational medium to sell their products and services and train employees.
  • More and more individuals are turning to Video and film to tell their stories and ideas.
  • More and more people are being taught by Video with better results.  Children are adopting ipads with interactive video instead of textbooks.
  • There are 7 billion people on Earth and only 2 billion have been on the internet -fact.
  • Google and other companies have big plans to bring easy internet access to the rest of the planet.

Video production and editing isn't going anywhere. It's exploding.

At the rate it's exploding, I think, it's impossible to saturate the market with enough professionals that have the skill and ability needed.  The work is out there and growing fast.

Focus on getting the message across.  Tell the story.
There will be billions more to tell in the coming years -and they will only increase.
